From the shadow of Mount Ararat to ancient temples and walls of volcanic stone, discover a side of Armenia where history and nature come together.
Your journey begins at Khor Virap, one of Armenia’s most iconic viewpoints. Standing before the monastery, with the majestic silhouette of Mount Ararat stretching across the horizon, you will find yourself in a landscape closely connected with Armenia’s Christian history and national identity.
The road then leads into a quieter side of the country, where Azat Reservoir lies surrounded by rugged mountains and open landscapes. Take a moment to enjoy the scenery and capture the changing colors of the Armenian highlands.
Charents Arch is one of the scenic viewpoints near Yerevan, offering a beautiful panorama of Mount Ararat and the surrounding Armenian landscape. Located on the road to Garni Temple and Geghard Monastery, this landmark is a popular stop for travelers exploring Armenia’s cultural and natural attractions.
Continue to Garni Temple, where ancient history meets spectacular nature. Rising above the Azat River Gorge, this remarkable 1st-century temple is a rare surviving example of classical architecture in Armenia. Its location is just as impressive as the monument itself.
Not far away, nature takes center stage at the Symphony of the Stones. Here, enormous basalt columns rise from the gorge in almost impossibly regular shapes. Formed by volcanic forces millions of years ago, the rocks create a natural landscape that looks almost man-made.
Your final stop is Geghard Monastery, hidden among the cliffs of the Azat Gorge. Partly carved into the surrounding rock, the monastery feels less like a building placed in nature and more like a place that has grown directly from the mountain. Its stone chambers, quiet atmosphere, and centuries-old history make it a fitting final chapter to the day.
A journey through Armenia’s landscapes, where Mount Ararat, ancient civilizations, volcanic stone and medieval monasteries become part of one unforgettable route.
